This personal study is an exploration of the narrative potential of Blender’s Grease Pencil, aiming to find a harmony between 3D structure and a traditional, painterly aesthetic. The project captures a nostalgic moment of an elderly couple riding a Vespa through city streets; the central visual concept is the contrast between a world that begins in monochrome and the burst of color that follows the couple’s path, transforming the environment as the camera pans.
I handled the entire production pipeline, creating stylized assets with soft silhouettes and hand-painted textures, then integrating Grease Pencil strokes to achieve a natural hybrid look. My main objective was to reach a vibrant watercolor effect and a warm, evocative atmosphere. To achieve this specific look, I relied on the incredible Deep Paint plugin by Gaku, whom I want to thank for this amazing tool. It is a LookDev exercise that demonstrates how technical optimization, combined with powerful artistic tools, can coexist with a deeply human and artisanal aesthetic.
I have also included a brief making-of at the end of the page to show the breakdown of the process and how the different layers come together to create the final result.
I hope you like it!
